And when a bride keeps thinking about her gown during a fitting, I know something needs to be fixed. Her gown was beautiful, but it wasn't working for her.
I didn't want to simply make the dress smaller.
I wanted to make the gown work for her.
Samira's wedding gown was so voluminous that even the gown cover became difficult to handle. When she first bring in her dress, she was literally 'weight-lifting' her big dress to my shop because the handles of the cover were both snapped. I helped fix and repair it. Thinking ahead, I wanted to make it easier for her to carry, get in and out of the car, move between wedding venues, and potentially travel back to Europe with it after her wedding. At least her wedding gown now have a proper 'home' to sit-in :)
So back to her dress problems. We worked on the little things that could make a big difference.
The four layers of her long train tended to separate whenever she turned or moved sideways. I discreetly connected them at selected points so they could move together more naturally.
Her lace-up back flap wouldn't stay in place, so I secured one side to keep it positioned properly while she laced up her gown.
The beautiful folds at the front of her skirt also shifted away from the center when she moved. A few hidden stitches helped keep them sitting neatly in place.
And then there were the sleeves. The sleeves were too loose and didn't have enough structure around her arms. Through several subtle refinements, we improved their fit and structure to help her arms move more comfortably.
And on her wedding day, she forgot about the dress.
She could hug her parents, move around, enjoy different locations, dance with her friends, and simply be present in the moments that mattered.
Samira later shared this lovely Google review:
Her kind words mean so much to me because this is exactly why I do what I do.
The best alteration isn't always the one people can see.
Sometimes it's the one that lets you hug your parents, dance with your friends, and walk confidently without thinking about your gown.
If your wedding gown is too big, difficult to move in, or simply doesn't behave the way you expected, don't assume you have to live with it. Sometimes, the right little changes can make all the difference.
Message "COMFORT" if you want your gown to feel as amazing as it looks.
